What if you could make it through the holiday season while actually improving your health?
When I was a yo-yo dieter, each year (Halloween through Christmas) was a time I would cheat on my diet. I felt I couldn’t control my eating around all of the goodies, holiday parties, and had no time to workout. I would start the new year at least 10-15 lbs heavier – every year.
After 14 years of this pattern, I finally changed. I lost weight, and my weight loss stayed steady through the holiday season.
No, this wasn’t with a fad diet or an eating plan with a lot of rules and restrictions (‘cuz you know by now that’s not my style!).
I’m talking real-world adjustments that help us feel better and healthier throughout the holiday season – without deprivation.
Ready for it?
Here’s my 3 strategies, PLUS AN INVITATION FOR ONE-ON-ONE PERSONAL TRAINING, HEALTH & NUTRITION COACHING!
3 WAYS TO GET “HOLIDAY FIT”
1) Don’t Workout Because of Food Guilt, But Find Ways to Move!
Exercise for strength, health, enjoyment, and balance. Not to erase certain foods out of guilt. We think guilt motivates us, but that leads to failure over time. Instead, find efficient and effective workouts you can do in relatively short periods of time. If you need a short, home workout to do, check out the 7 workouts I’ve provided free HERE. Otherwise, even a 10-20 minute walk done consistently can keep you on track during the holiday season. Just move!
2) Build Your Base, But Build In Satisfaction, Too
Begin to build your base of healthy nutrition start to think about how often you are having your #PVWs (protein, veggies, and drinking your water quota).
- Are you having lean protein at least 3 times per day?
- Eating vegetables (especially low-starch veggies) with at least 3 meals or snacks?
- And are you drinking a minimum of 80 oz of water?
With my Satisfaction Bites strategy are a strategy I eat about 3-5 bites of whatever treat I want. I practice eating slowly and mindfully, telling myself no food is off limits. I remind myself repeatedly I can have more Satisfaction Bites later on… or even the next day.
One example of how I use Satisfaction Bites is to have 3-5 french fries off my daughter’s plate, to get the taste and leave me feeling satisfied, without having to get a full order of fries.
3) Eat What You Want. Leave What You Don’t Want
This is a super successful holiday eating strategy. Don’t waste your time and calories on food that’s less-than-stellar. Taste and then throw it away if it’s not good. Instead, find food that’s worth it.

WHAT RESULTS CAN YOU EXPECT FROM MY ONE-ON-ONE COACHING PROGRAM?
“My relationship with food has been complicated (to say the least). I had been a yo-yo dieter for years, and even after having discovered the benefits of eating a whole, real-food diet, I still struggled with finding balance, as well as being able to lose weight.
Barb has been the catalyst for me finally finding grace through a practical way of eating a nutritious diet that doesn’t sacrifice my health, happiness, or my sanity!
What she’s taught me has changed my entire life (I know that sounds cheesy, but it’s true!). I’ve been able to lose weight steadily (and keep it off!) and although the process hasn’t always been easy, it has been so good! Barb truly cares, and her methods for nutritional and fitness coaching are practical and full of wisdom.”
“Barb gave me exactly what I was looking for – she worked with my schedule and individual needs. Her workouts are effective and since I can do them in the convenience of our my home, I have no excuse that work got in the way or finding a babysitter prevented me from getting to the gym.
She provides an accountability that is lacking with a large program, and I have really seen success!
We have also gained a better understanding of health and nutrition, which has translated into a better way of living for our whole family. It has strengthened us as a family.”
“She is very accommodating and I love the continuous support and communication she provides! The best feeling in the world is losing weight and getting my body back… wearing the clothes that I’ve been saving to get back into them one day… well that day has come! Thank you Barb!!
“So thankful for her and for all that she has done for me so far! I’ve lost 26 lbs and I’m going to keep going! And thankfully, Barb is not only helping me lose weight and get to my goal, but is educating me on how the body works so that I may continue to maintain my health for the rest of my life as well as helping my loved ones.
I couldn’t have done this without her support and encouragement. I definitely would recommend Barb’s Fit for Life to everyone. You won’t be sorry!”
“She showed me that with a little preplanning, I never had to be hungry or eat things that “blew” my diet. I was able to have “that glass of wine” or desert when I wanted it. One of my initial complaints was arthritic pain in my hands. After two weeks of making better choices in food by not eating so much processed food, this pain and swelling has gone away.
I have lowered my blood pressure to the point my doctor is going to cut my medication at my next visit. I have lost 15% of my body weight and met my weight goal, as well as, 11 inches in three months!! That is pretty good for a 64 year old. Barb’s approach to diet and exercise is not a quick fix but a lifestyle change. No food is off limits which makes it much easier. My exercise plans have increased my strength and flexibility. I am looking forward to better health and wellness as I continue my journey with Barb.”
